In Part 2 of the tutorial, we are going to generate a few images based on the built-in Orbital Equation IFS File Processor.

First, we are going to change 1 of the controller's properties, and activate adaptive smoothing.

You should already be on the Gradient Map - Value properties page:

General
Orbital / IFS / Strange Attractor
        Controllers
            Gradient Map - Value

Scroll down to the Color Space Adjustment section and change the Saturation to -50. This reduces the color saturation by 50%.

Next, select the Adaptive Smoothing properties page:

General
Orbital / IFS / Strange Attractor
        Adaptive Smoothing

Check the Active checkbox to activate adaptive smoothing.

Next, select the Orbital Equation: Apollonian Gasket (Variations) properties page:

General
Orbital / IFS / Strange Attractor
        Orbital Equation: Apollonian Gasket (Variations)

Set Based On to IFS File Processor.

Read the comments in the program's Instructions at the bottom of the page and then select the program's Properties page. Set Item to IFS10 and execute the Display Fractal command on the Tools menu of the Fractal Window to generate the fractal image.

Below find several example images generated by this equation:

IFS10

IFS17

IFS40

Below each image is the value of the Item property used to create the image.

This program reads an IFS definition from a file. The file must conform to the specification defined by Fractint IFS files (2D only). There are many of these files available on the Internet. The IFS definitions found in the default file Examples.ifs were generated by the built-in Orbital Equation IFS (Search) which searches for IFS definitions based on a set of user-defined criteria.

Before we move on to the next part of the tutorial, we need to reset the controller back to the default settings. To do this, select the Gradient Map - Value properties page:

General
Orbital / IFS / Strange Attractor
        Controllers
            Gradient Map - Value

Click the Synchronize button at the top of the page. This reloads the properties and program instructions for the controller, restoring any changes you have made.
